Mechanical Engineering & Design

Zixiu Zhong

I study Mechanical Engineering and Design at Northeastern University, graduating in 2027. Growing up around precision machining drew me to mechanical design, fabrication, and how products work reliably.

My contribution · Dehumidification design

Environmental Box

Capstone team project · CAD design stage

  • Designing a chamber for droplet evaporation experiments, with controlled conditions and a clear view inside.
  • I design the dehumidification system, moving air through desiccant while considering airflow around the droplets.
  • 20–70°C and 5–95% RH are design targets. The operating range and stability still need testing.

Mystery Project: Power Outage

Cornerstone team project · Five-minute mystery game

  • Our team connected a wooden puzzle, computers, and an Arduino circuit in a game about restoring power to a city.
  • I wrote the C++ story and instructions, checked numeric input, and added retries and optional hints.
  • The recorded run shows the flow: incorrect input, hints, a corrected answer, and the final voltage check.
  • C++
  • Input validation

Carnival Game

Cornerstone team project · Ball-toss game for children

  • Combines a ball toss with pinball: balls pass obstacles before landing in holes with different scores.
  • I handled modeling, fabrication, and game mechanics. Laser-cut wooden panels slot together to form the structure.
  • Our team built the physical game and invited local children to try it. It ran smoothly and as expected.
